The Hygiene team at LARA dental are uniquely qualified to assist in the prevention and treatment of oral disease and the promotion of a healthy oral environment. Our Hygienists will focus on all aspects of gum health by monitoring oral hygiene practices and assisting patients to develop a home care plan to maintain oral health.

As well as performing scaling and polishing, our thorough Hygienists can offer advice on;

  • Prevention of tooth decay
  • Nutritional information in prevention of tooth decay
  • Use of fluoride
  • Smoking cessation
  • Halitosis (smelly breath)
  • Stained/discoloured teeth
  • Xerostomia (dry mouth)
  • Links between dental health and systemic conditions

LARA dental’s Hygiene team provides a comfortable environment for questions to be asked on these topics and any other concerns you may have. We understand that some of these topics can be sensitive in a social environment and as such we are more than happy to have discussions in a more discrete manner to help you find solutions to your concerns.

As well as aesthetic and social issues, LARA dental’s Hygiene team pride themselves in providing optimal oral health by customising a periodontal program to suit individual needs. It is important to express that health can not be measured by the lack of pain in teeth and gums, as often pain comes in the final stages of dental disease.

Dental disease, both gum disease and tooth decay, are caused by plaque being left on teeth. Within minutes of teeth being cleaned, an invisible sticky layer of film called plaque forms on all tooth surfaces. Bacteria from the mouth attach to this film and begin to grow.  The bacteria in plaque are able to damage the teeth and gums by causing tooth decay and gum disease. A new layer of plaque will grow on teeth everyday and for this reason plaque should be thoroughly removed with correct brushing and flossing techniques on a daily basis and with regular visits to your Hygienist.

Fillings

The most common application for fillings is to treat dental decay, alternately fillings are also an effective way to help improve the aesthetics of your teeth that have worn over time.  There are two types of materials used, a tooth coloured material that is mercury free or a silver filling that is composed of amalgam.  Receiving one or multiple fillings can be a simple and quick procedure that is completed in a single appointment.

Alternately, for longevity and strength a porcelain inlay may also be used for treating dental decay.  An inlay is a type of tooth coloured filling that will provide a longer lasting solution for larger cavities or old leaking fillings and importantly will blend naturally with your teeth.

Dr Geoffrey Storey and Dr Charlie Kahwagi can discuss the all the options available to you during your examination or consultation and provide you with a cost estimate.

Dentures

Are you interested in an economic way to replace some or all of your missing teeth to help recapture your smile?

Dentures or false teeth are a common method used to replace teeth that cannot be repaired.  There are a number of options available to you and at LARA dental our experienced dentists can offer advice and help you make an informed decision on the best treatment for you.

Removable dentures can be plastic (acrylic) or metal framed (cobalt chrome) and with the assistance of our local dental technicians we will be able to offer the right treatment specifically tailored to you.

Tooth Extraction

Our goal is to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. If a tooth is so badly damaged or extensively decayed that it is considered as having a detrimental effect on your overall health and the health of your mouth, extraction may be the only treatment option available to you.  However, rest assured this will only be recommended after discussion of all other restorative treatment options and these being considered as ineffective long term solutions.

Such treatment can be a source of anxiety to many patients so at LARA dental we will provide exceptional care both during and post the procedure to ensure your comfort.  There are a number of options available to you to ensure as much comfort as possible during the procedure especially using local anaesthetic.  However, if the procedure is more difficult a general anaesthetic can be arranged on request.
